Tajikistan is a Central Asian country bordering Afghanistan, China, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. It’s known for its rugged mountains, which are popular for hiking and climbing. The Fann Mountains, near the national capital of Dushanbe, encompass snow-capped peaks that rise above 5,000 meters. Within the range is Iskanderkulsky Nature Refuge, a noted bird habitat whose namesake, Iskanderkul, is a turquoise lake formed by glaciers.
